Laser mole removal is a surgical method that involves heating up the tissue or cells, to the point where they overheat and explode. The area is numbed, and then a low-level laser is used to remove the brown pigmentation of the mole. Some pain has been reported when the laser pulses repeatedly; it is compared to the snap of a rubber band on the skin.

When preparing for mole removal surgery the area is cleaned with either Betadine, alcohol, or another chemical. The area is then numbed with anesthetic; most surgeons wait 15 minutes to let the blood flow decrease. Then if necessary a drape will be placed over the area to be operated on.
Mole Removal Surgery & Methods:
Simple Cutting - The surgeon shaves the mole down evenly or below skin level, then the area is either burned or a solution is applied to stop the bleeding. An antibiotic is then applied to the wound and covered with a bandage. This form of surgery is not as common as it can leave mole cells under the skin, allowing the mole to grow back.
Excision Cutting and Stitching - This is usually used for darker or flat moles. A scalpel is used to cut the mole and bordering skin around the mole, usually in an oval shape. The size will depend on the area being treated and is left up to the surgeon to decide. Stitches are then applied to either the surface skin which will be removed later or the tissue below the skin where the stitches will dissolve.
Excision with Cauterization - This is the process of coagulating blood and destroying living tissue, either by a hot iron device or freezing. There is little bleeding as the area is sealed by the hot iron, or frozen by the other procedure.

Pain and discomfort are normal after surgery; the amounts felt though will vary depending on the surgical process performed. You will need to clean the area two times a day, with diluted hydrogen peroxide and water. Apply any antibiotic ointment that you are not allergic to over the wound, re-apply a fresh bandage, and repeat daily until the area is healed.
